Did you know?

This actually was something I planned to make a video about.

I even made a mock-up thumbnail because at the time I needed to make a mockup for my portfolio and I needed 3 videos but I only had 2.

But then time passed on.. and on…………… and on.

And I did not make this video.

But this is the rough outline for it for you to enjoy now almost 1.5 years later!

The Outline

The note in my vault is actually called “Black Friday Pushed Me To Do This” which is a very click-bait-y title. Kind of. Maybe it would still work, though.

It’s not that developed as this was supposed to be similar to my video about building my first mechanical keyboard from scratch, where I had main points I wanted to talk about but I improv’d the actual content instead of scripting because I Hate Writing (did you know? I know, funny.)

moving

The first point was to highlight that I’d (at the time) recently moved! And how it inspired me to actually make my space nice to be in.

Looking back on it now, I really have achieved this quite well :D So mayhaps it still would be a nice thing to talk about in a video format someday.

history

As I’ve always been a very secluded homebody even as a child, I thought it’d be fun to reminiscize on the sort of desk setups I’ve had over the years.

My desk spaces were always very important and dear to me, you know!

They were usually functional, rather than aesthetic, which would highlight that my setup now is quite “visually appealing” compared to any of my previous attempts.

the deals

As much as I would have loved to procrastinate, it was The Black Friday Deal season, and it felt like a no-brainer that if I am investing in a new desk setup, it would be best to do it NOW.

This part probably would have listed what I bought at the time, but now I barely remember. Aside the fact that it was a lot of money to spend lol.

cable management

Yeah so, after many many orders, it hit me that like, I will be doing this. No more laziness!!! And also… if I am going all in, then makes sense to buy all the little cable management knick knacks too, right …?

Well, I think this is a part which I once again have forgotten the main idea for, but I think now writing about this all this time later, I can say for sure that while I am glad that I did do the cable management, it is a bit annoying how “restrictive” it is.

Also, unlike all your favorite aesthetic youtubers, I didn’t actually care to make my cable management perfect. There still are bits of wires you can see.

Who cares.

This is where the thumbnail idea came from as well.

timelapse of the setup

Well, I still have the hundreds of pictures I took of myself doing my computer setup once the desk was built (I got help with that so I didn’t record that)

So this is just the part of the video which would have had that. Here’s one frame out of context:

Yes, of course my back hurt the next day. Why do you ask?

before and afters

You know, celebrate the improvement, yadda yadda. This is why this would work better as a video /s

but is it done, done?

Okay, looking at my original outline this is a bit of a funny point because while I did add a few more things to the desk like my plant, it kind of is done, done.

Of course, with time I may rehaul things still, but you know. We’ll see.

Final Thoughts

You know what?

Writing this, I feel like this would be such a fun video to make, still. Probably a bit differently structured than this original outline, because god I have forgotten half the amount of the in-progress little details which I’m sure would have been a great learning story.

But, I still love the idea of doing a “desk upgrade” video that doesn’t entirely lean into the “look at how clean and perfect it looks now” gimmick that a lot of people do.

I think my proudest thing about this setup is that, yes, it is much more pretty and beautiful than before.

But is it like, perfect? Nah. There’s stuff sticking out here and there. Whatever. It’s fine.

So having a video like that would be fun. Maybe I should do it, even if it is ‘late’.
